Basically, Data Science as the big tent discipline. This is a nice organization, since CS, biostat, stat, ... all really don't seem to want to become the big tent disciplines that house data science. The trouble is how this fits into university organization. What we're struggling with at Hopkins is everyone wants the spoils of being the home for data science, but no one wants the troubles of expanding their tents (naturally). Harvard is trying some pan-university effort along these lines. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
